1. Pack Basics
Make sure to pack basics such as underwear, socks, pants, shirts, and everyday shoes, but also think about a pair of shoes for finer occasions, one nice outfit in case you go to a restaurant or special affair and want to look nice. If you missed the post about traveling with liquids, this is a must-read.
2. Know Your Environment
If you can expect cold weather where you are going bring a few sweaters and jackets, like a cardigan or a big sweater, and think about coats as well. Maybe you need a big parka or little windbreaker.
If it might be hot make sure to have cooler clothing, like shorts and shirtsleeves. But make sure that you check if it’s appropriate where you might be going (In most places it might be okay, but in more conservative areas it might be deemed super inappropriate).
3. Be Aware of Product Issues
I only mention this because of major phone issues we saw a while back. I don’t want to make a big deal out of the matter, but I think it is important to be careful with your technology, especially if there has been a recall because of flight emergencies. So please, if security or flight attendants tell you to do something, take it into account – they are there for your safety and security.
4. A Secret Personal Tip
Now, this is something I grew up with; always have necessities in your carry-on. Always! That means keep a change of clothes (including an extra set of underwear) and some snack foods in your carry-on when traveling because you never know when a delayed or canceled flight, a super long layover, or something random happens. Plus, always keep your valuables with you, so that if your suitcase gets lost (god forbid, but it can happen!), you have that iPad you got last year or that necklace from your grandmother – yeah, let’s not lose that!

A pair of glasses for those that wear contacts! The air on the plane is so dry and your contact lenses become glued to your eyes. I learned the hard way.
I so agree! You never know when you’ll have a good or bad day on a plane. Sometimes lots of lotion before, or a new pair of contacts in your bag, still won’t help the situation.
